PRODUCT CARE

1. What is the difference between Down and Feathers?
Down consists of the clusters found on the underside of a goose or a duck (waterfowl).  The Clusters are soft, fine strands that stem from a central point and as they interlock they trap air.  The air keeps you warm.

Feathers are the outer plumage of a waterfowl.  Feathers have a quill and are flatter than a down cluster. They are thicker and do not entrap air to provide the warmth that a down cluster does.

Many products fromare a mix of Down and Feathers. 

Generally, when there is more down in a product – the pillow or comforter is fluffier and softer and when a product has a higher feather content it is more firm.

2. What does Fill Power mean?
Fill power is the standard measure of the number of cubic inches filled by an ounce of down.  The more space an ounce of down occupies the more warmth it provides.  This is because more space entraps more air.  (And it is the air that provides the warmth.)

3. How often should I wash my pillows and comforters?
You should wash your comforters and pillows upon soiling or any build up of moisture in your room. Keeping your pillows clean and thoroughly dry will prevent build up of dust or mold in your down bedding. We encourage you to use Pillow Protectors, Duvet Protectors, Feather Bed Protectors, and Mattress Pads to create the most hygienic bed and to protect your investment.

4. I stored my down comforter for the winter and it started to smell.  Why?
If you store your down products (Comforters, Pillows and Feather Beds), never put them in plastic bags or containers.  Down is a natural product – it needs to breathe.  If these products are enclosed in a plastic bag with no breathing holes, they will not breathe and can potentially build up moisture and start to smell.  Always store down products in a dry area in cotton bags or in containers with proper ventilation.  In the event your down products do develop an odor, air them outside of the protector in sunlight or place in the dryer on the lowest heat setting & include three tennis balls to agitate the fill.  This will absorb the moisture and odor.

5. When I wash my down comforter, I can’t seem to get it dry quickly.  What do I do?
Use a front load dryer at its lowest heat setting and include three tennis balls, a pair of white tennis shoes, or similar item to agitate the fill.  You may have to re-position the comforter in the dryer as it begins to dry.  It is very important that you dry your comforters and pillows thoroughly otherwise they may mildew.  This may take up to several hours.

6. It is true that you are supposed to change your pillows once a year?
How often should I get new pillows?
If you keep your pillows clean, it is not necessary to replace them once a year.  Pillow Protectors used on all pillows to prevent soiling and the build up of dust or moisture inside of your pillows.  When cleaning your pillows make sure that they are thoroughly dried to prevent any build up of dust or mold.  Wash your Pillow Protectors frequently.  As long as your pillows are kept clean and free of moisture, you should not have to replace them for years.

7. What are Dust Mites?
Dust Mites are tiny bugs that live in your home.  They measure 1/100th of an inch in length and feed off dust.  Their waste is a major cause of allergies and asthma.  They love warm, humid areas filled with dust.  To prevent Dust Mites in your home it is essential to keep your home free of dust and moisture.  Pillow Protectors and Mattress Pads help to keep your pillows and mattresses clean and free of Dust Mites.  Clean the protectors frequently.

8. When I received my down comforter/pillow in the mail, it looked flat. I expected it to be more fluffy.  What do I do?
Just Add Air.  Down is a natural product and needs to breathe.  The down products have been compressed for shipping.  All of the air has been pushed out.  Just add air by fluffing your down product and letting it breathe outside of the packaging or any sheeting to fluff it up.  Once the down clusters entrap air, they fluff up and regain loft.

1. How do I determine what is the best down comforter for me?
Determining a comforter is a matter of personal preferences.
All  comforters are available in 3 weights; Summer Weight (light weight), Fall Weight (medium weight) and Winter Weight (heavy weight).

Depending how you like your bed to look and feel, we can determine the comforter that is right for you.  Do you like a warm and fluffy bed, or do you get hot at night and like a lighter comforter?  Do you like a tailored look for a platform bed?  We have the comforter for you.

2. I love the bedding/pillow at a hotel that I recently visited/stayed at.  How do I purchase it for myself/find them?
We know hotels worldwide.  Tell us where you stayed and what you liked about the bedding/pillow. Chances are what you have experienced was a  pillow/bedding and if we didn’t make that one, we will suggest something that feels just like it.

3. I get too hot when I sleep, would I like a down comforter?
Down is a natural product and will breathe and adjust to your body temperature.  You may find that you are hotter sleeping under a polyester comforter as it does not breathe.  We recommend using 100% Cotton Duvet Covers and sheets with down products because Cotton is a natural, breathable fiber.  This will provide the most comfort and allow you to sleep at a comfortable temperature.

4. What kind of cover do I use on my down comforter?
We always recommend a duvet cover for your down comforter.  Not only will this keep your comforter covered and clean, but it is a decorative element to your bedding.  We recommend 100% Cotton Duvet Covers and sheets.  We do not recommend using Polyester (synthetic fibers) over a down comforter because Polyester does not allow the down to breathe.

5. We purchased new pillows and my husband no longer snores?  Could this be the pillows?  Is there a connection?  Why would a new pillow make a difference?
Your new pillows probably support your husband’s head at the correct angle so that he is breathing more easily causing him to snore less.  A firmer pillow will keep your head straight allowing you to breathe easily in your sleep.  If your head and neck are at the correct angle, you are less likely to snore and will get a more efficient flow of oxygen to your brain, promoting a better, more sound sleep.  We suggest firmer pillows for side and back sleepers and softer pillows for stomach sleepers.

6. When I sleep on down pillows, my allergies act up and I have trouble breathing.  Can I be allergic to down?
All  products are cleansed using our CentroClean ™ cleaning process removes the allergens from the down and feathers.  Often when people are allergic to down, it has not been cleaned properly or the product has not been cared for properly and has developed dust or mold, which is the actual cause of most allergic reactions.  Often people are allergic to the dust not the actual down.  If you do find that you are allergic to down, we would like to recommend  PolyPlush pillows and blankets.  They are all Hypoallergenic and filled with a spun imitation silk floss fiber.

1. What is Baffle Box Construction?
 Comforters and Feather Beds are Baffle Box Construction with invisible baffle seams.  Baffle Box Construction is a box with in a box.  Each comforter has boxes that are approximately 15”x15.5”.  Each box has a box within it.  This is a double layer of fabric and a closed box.  This prevents the down from shifting around, and gives the down more space to breathe, thus providing for a fluffier product.

2. What is a Feather Bed?  How do I use it?
Feather Beds are a feather and down filled mattress topper, which sits on top of the mattress pad and mattress and below underneath the bottom sheet.  It adds extra loft, warmth, and comfort to the bed.

We always recommend Feather Bed Protectors for all Feather Beds.  The 235TC (thread count), 100% Cotton cover with invisible zipper closure will preserve the life of the Feather Bed and keep it hygienic, protecting it from dirt, Dust Mites and mold.  The Feather Bed Protector should be washed as frequently as your sheeting.

3. Why do I need a Mattress Pad?
The Mattress Pad covers the mattress and prevents it form from soiling, moisture and Dust Mites.
Mattress Pads should be washable.  uses double sided Polyester/Cotton quilted fabric for durability and washability.

4. I have had other down comforters that leak.  How do I know that a down comforter from will not leak?
 Down comforters are made using superior construction techniques and 100% Downproof  Cotton Fabric.  The Baffle Box Construction with invisible seams keeps the down securely and evenly distributed throughout the comforter.  The down in our comforters will not shift.  In addition, our comforters are finished with double stitched edges and German Cotton Piping, which prevents any down from leaking.
